Airsoft is a combat simulation game similar to paintball, but with an additional element of military simulation.  Although the game is played similarly to paintball, the main difference is that instead of using paintball guns, you use specially made full-replica airsoft guns typically firing 6mm plastic BBs.

These guns vary in power, but the UK limit is set at around 1/18th the power of paintball guns, SO IT HURTS A LOT LESS THAT PAINTBALL! However, airsoft guns beat paintball guns on both range and accuracy, most firing accurately to about up to 50m. In this more realistic combat scenario, tactics of real military units come into play, making for a highly exciting game (with less huge bruises and welts). The result is an experience that draws parallels from the best first-person-shooter computer games, but with a healthy dose of exercise!  Assault rifles, SMG's, shotguns, pistols, revolvers, sniper rifles and support weapons are all available, as well as grenades.

In airsoft it is usual to dress in military surplus and real equipment.  Eye protection is a must, though not usually as restrictive as in Paintball. Mesh goggles or approved shooting glasses are the most common.

There are a great many airsoft sites in the UK, which separate into three categories: Woodland, Urban and CQB (Close Quarter Battle). Woodland sites are, predictably, outdoors in woodlands. They often cover many acres and feature pillboxes, trench systems and sometimes towers. Urban sites vary from an open or wooded area with a selection of buildings in to disused radar bases and complete villages in which to skirmish. CQB are completely indoors, fighting in a furious enclosed environment – Rainbow 6 style!

Since October 2007 IT IS ILLEGAL to purchase a replica firearm airsoft gun unless you are a registered airsofter.  2 tone guns can be bought by anyone over the age of 18. More information on this and how to become exempt from the ban can be found in FAQ’s.

Needless to say Warwick AirSoc will take a very dim view on anybody trying to ‘beat’ the law.
